Summary
Limewood, carved and stained applique sprays of flower heads and foliage, mid-19th century. One of four applique over-door panels with sprays of flower heads and foliage, installed in the Saloon. These probably date from around 1856 when the Saloon underwent repair work initiated by the 2nd Earl Brownlow (1842-67). They may be the work of William Gibbs Rogers (1792-1875), a woodcarver and restorer of work by Grinling Gibbons (1648-1721), who oversaw restoration of the woodcarvings in the style of Gibbons at Belton House in 1856.
