Summary
A burr walnut and repousse gilt brass mounted casket or table box, English, circa 1680. The hinged domed lid enclosing a crimson silk interior, which appears to be the original lining. The box mounted with repousse panels decorated with scrolling foliage and flower heads, twin clasps to secure the top and with a conforming lock plate.

Purchased with a grant from the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) from Edward John Peregrine Cust, 7th Baron Brownlow (b.1936) in 1984.
