One of a pair of jars (for its associated lid see NT 433593.1.2), porcelain, of round baluster shape, Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province, China, 1780–1820, painted in underglaze blue with landscapes.
Full description
The landscapes with rivers, rocky outcrops, trees, boats and pavilions seen on this kind of Chinese porcelain inspired the transfer-printed landscape decoration seen on Staffordshire glazed earthenware products from about 1790, which became known as the ‘willow pattern’.
