Summary
Dish (missing its cover), porcelain, ingot shaped (rectangular, narrowing at the centre), Zoshuntei Sanpo, Arita, Hizen Province, Japan, c. 1880, decorated on the exterior with maples and stylised wheel shapes in overglaze enamels, the foot with a band of diamond shapes in underglaze blue, inscribed in iron red 'Zoshuntei Sanpo tsukuru' (蔵春亭三保造, ‘Made by Sanpo at the Zoshun Pavilion’).
Full description
Zoshuntei Sanpo was the company or brand name used by several members of the Hisatomi family who produced porcelain for export in Arita between 1842 and 1870. It was the first time a distinct name or trademark was regularly inscribed on Arita porcelain.
