Summary
A dark wood gothic cantilever staircase in two parts between: ground and first floor and then first and second floor. The bannister runs on the left-hand side as you ascend and is supported on each end by a newel post. Between the newels run a series of balusters infilled at the top with ogee arches. On the right-hand side as you ascend, attached to the wall, wooden panelling with a half bannister runs the full length of the staircase. The newel posts feature a square cap and an incised panel on each side, topped with ogee arches. The bottom of each newel post where exposed on the staircase features a drop finial. A dark wood stringer rises the full length of the internal side of the staircase. On the underside of the flight is ornate plasterwork fixed to narrow laths, painted white. Brass stair rods attached at the joint of each tread and riser secure sacrificial carpet (429181).
