Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Maurice Edelman (1911 - 1975) (Disraeli's Biographer) and a Female Companion, surrounded by Female Nudes, British School, 1975. Man fully-clothed in 19th century dress (black tie), centre, in a landscape surrounded by five female nudes and a naked boy. Inscribed bottom left 'To Maurice for his Birthday March 2 1975/ Painted in the manner... [illegible]'. The Maurice in the scene was Maurice Edelman, MP for Coventry North and Coventry North-west, who wrote books about Disraeli, Disraeli in Love (1972) and Disraeli Rising (1975) (the planned third volume was never completed) and lived in a wing at Hughenden as a tenant between 1972-1975. Here he is on his last birthday, aged 64.
