Half-length portrait, turned slightly to the right, looking down, wearing blue robe with heavy gold border of Chancellor of University of Oxford. Lace cravat. Wood panelling in background.
Provenance
According to a label on the back, presented to Disraeli by Lord Salisbury (the sitter); not listed by Disraeli in June 1879 evidently because in the Garden Hall, which is missing; 1881 inventory, as in the Hall (no.136), in a 'plain Oak gilt frame'; but mentioned in the ILN FOR 22 April 1893 (P.498),, as in the Drawing Room (as 'a good deal thinner and more eager than the statesman of today');
