Summary
Photograph NO.1. GROUP OF NATIVES AT EGEDESMINDE, GREENLAND. Black and white albumin photograph mounted on card. Mount has handwritten ‘1’ at top, and ‘London Stereoscopic and Photographic Company, 110 and 108, Regent Street, and 54, Cheapside.’ printed near bottom. 20 individuals pose together on a boat; the front two rows are seated and the back row are standing. The ships wheel can be seen in the foreground and rigging in the background. Photograph has damage (bonded tissue paper?) and considerable fading.
Provenance
Presented to Benjamin Disraeli by the Admirality 4th July, 1877. Presumably in thanks for Disraeli's endorsement of the expedition during his second term as Prime Minister (1874-1880). See main record (428862) for more provenance details.
