Bought by Lord Rowton for Disraeli; recorded by Disraeli's list of Juen 18979 as hanging in the Library, and visible to the left of the door to the Garden Hall in the 1881 photograph of that room published in the Illustrated London News, 11 April 1893; where descibed as 'somehow recalling that famous description of the "man of stable mind" (p. 498); 1881 inventory, ibid. no. 166, as by 'H. B.(old Doyle)
