Summary
A 17th century (?) pine leather-covered rectangular chest with a domed lid (held on by two large metal hinges). The lid and sides of the chest were once covered in brown leather held in place by small metal studs. The metal studding on the lid forms patterns and within a leaf shape in the centre the date 1687 is written out. The inside of the chest is lined with paper dating from the late 17th and early 18th century and appears to be the pages of a journal (with patterns of figures and large suns with faces). Metal handles one each end and metal banding on each corner of lid and on each side of chest front only.
