Summary
Brass lantern clock, a time and strike bracket clock with an 8 day movement. The 6 1/2 inch dial with chapter ring with engraved Roman numerals around the inscription William Snow in / Marlborough above engraved foliate decoration, with both hour and minute hands and two winding holes. The case has side-opening doors and a solid back and short bob pendulum, with four slender columns topped with finials at the corners and topped with decorative open fretwork. With a domed bell, topped by another finial at the apex. Britten's 'Old Clocks and Watches' states that Snow was one of the first high quality provincial watchmakers of the mid-17th century.
