Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Thomas Vernon, MP (1724-1771) by Vera Stanley Alder (Eglingham 1898 - 1984) after Thomas Gainsborough (Sudbury 1727 - London 1788), 1930. A half-length portrait of a man, turned to the left, gazing at the spectator, wearing short powdered wig tied at the back with a black ribbon, blue coat and waistcoat edged with gold braid and with gold buttons, short white cravat. After the miniature NT 413874 at Hanbury Hall (the original portrait by Gainsborough is in a private collection; unpublished; attribution confirmed by Hugh Belsey, 2025).
