Summary
A saucer, produced in Worcester during the Dr Wall period, 1751-1783. Decorated (transfer-printed and painted) with imagery of figures in a landscape, in the style of the French artist Jean Pillement (1728-1808). Other examples of Worcester pieces in the Pillement style are held in the V&A and British Museum.
Full description
In 1751 porcelain began being produced in the city of Worcester, after Dr John Wall (1708-1776) perfected a formulation that could withstand boiling water. This saucer dates from the earliest years of the factory.
