Summary
Oil sketch on paper, William Gibbs (1790-1875) by Sir Willam Boxall (1800-1879), circa 1870. A head-and-shoulders portrait in oval mount, gold square frame with three-dimensional decoration. Back of portrait covered in dark paper but with centre removed over actual portrait showing bare wooden back of portrait.

Purchased by the National Trust from the estate of the late George Richard Lawley Gibbs, 2nd Baron Wraxall (1928 – 2001) with the assistance of the NHMF, Art Fund and donations from members and supporters in 2002
