Summary
Newel post. Figure at top of a gentleman in hose, c.1620's. 4 carved panels below - swags and garlands; swags and garlands; swags and garlands and a cartouche. Lower carved panels - garlands; plumed helmet; cartouche with crossed swords; and leather body armour with crossed halberds. Nail holes in base suggest this has been moved from another position.
Provenance
Part of the Lothian Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust by Philip, 11th Marquess of Lothian (1882-1940)
