Summary
Large oak overmantel dated 1627. Bears the arms of Sir Henry Hobart (left) and his wife Dorothy Bell (right). Carved oak panels between high relief terms - 3 male and 2 female - with lion masks. Inscribed in gilt 'QUAE SUPRA', 'ANO DO 1627'.
Provenance
Lord Buckinghamshire was at pains to preserve the ancient chimneypiece. The upper frieze was restored in his time, and possibly again in the 1830's.
