Summary
Cawston duelling stone. Portland stone. Urn on a square pedestal. Inscribed on front of pedestal 'H H'. Shaped cut-out at back of pedestal. Monument to Sir Henry Hobart, 4th Baronet, who was killed in a duel with Oliver Le Neve on 21st August 1698. This commemorative stone was erected in 1770 in the grounds of the Woodrow Inn (now the Woodrow Garage) on the Norwich Road, Cawston, by W.W. Bulwer of Wood Dalling. The urn and the surrounding land were presented in 1964 to the National Trust by the National Benozle Company Ltd. See associated document under Media tab.
Provenance
This commemorative stone urn was erected in 1770 in the grounds of the Woodrow Inn (now the Woodrow Garage) on the Norwich Road, Cawston, by W.W. Bulwer of Wood Dalling. The urn and the surrounding land were presented in 1964 to the National Trust by the National Benzole Company Ltd.
