Summary
Oil painting on canvas, Nurture of Jupiter by Giulio Romano (Rome 1499 - Mantua 1546). Landscape with figures. Two men, two women, a baby and goats under a tree. According to mythology, Jupiter was the son of Saturn (Cronos) who had eaten his children for fear of usurption by one of them but Jupiter's mother fled to Crete and gave birth to him in a cave. Nymphs and shepherds fed him wild honey and milk suckled from the goat Amlathea.
