Summary
8-day English striking longcase clock by Benjamin Lockwood, circa 1780. 2 train, 5 pillar movement, with anchor escapement and rack striking. Brass break arch dial with strike/silent in arch. Silvered chapter ring. Seconds dial and engraved dial centre, signed - Benj Lockwood, Swaffham. Mahogany veneered case. Break arch hood with fluted corinthian brass capped columns, surmounted by fretted cresting. Glazed door. Plain mahogany break arch door to trunk and cross banding to trunk and plinth, with bracket feet. Both doors with lock.
Provenance
Part of the Lothian Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust by Philip, 11th Marquess of Lothian (1882-1940).
