Summary
A cut-glass sand shaker (for drying ink). Early 19th Century. A tapering square glass bottle with a short cylindrical neck and ground rim, the rounded shoulders facet-cut and the edges bevelled, the flat base with a polished pontil mark. A silver lid with a beaded edge, grooved side and a knopped finial. The cover is perforated with a repeating star, stylized flower and leaf design.
Provenance
Part of the Lothian Collection. The Hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1940 by Philip, 11th Marquess of Lothian (1882-1940).
