Summary
A cut-glass inkwell and a sand shaker (for drying ink). Early 19th Century. A pair of tapering square glass bottles with short cylindrical necks and ground rims, the rounded shoulders facet-cut and the edges bevelled, the flat bases with polished pontil marks. Two silver lids both with beaded edges, grooved sides and knopped finials. The cover to the shaker is perforated with a repeating star, stylized flower and leaf design.
Provenance
Part of the Lothian Collection. The Hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust in 1940 by Philip, 11th Marquess of Lothian (1882-1940).
