Print, mezzotint, William Robertson DD (1721-1793) (after Sir Joshua Reynolds) by John Dixon (Dublin c.1740 – London 1811). Man in black gown, white two panelled collar, seated in chair right hand holds a quill. Draped desk on his right holds papers, ink-well, books. Curtain behind. Printed beneath the picture 'Sr Joshua Reynolds pinx', 'J Dixon fecit', 'Sold by J Boydell Cheapside, J Hooper Ludgate Hill, J Bradford Fleet St, J Birford Bridge Street Westminster, J Dixon Kempes Row opposite Ranelagh Walk, Chelsea'. Black frame, gilt slip, mounted and glazed.
Provenance
Part of the Courtauld-Thomson bequest of 1943, and transferred from Dorneywood via Queen Anne's Gate to Blickling Hall in 1989.
