Summary
Print, mezzotint. James Hamilton, 8th Earl of Abercorn (1712-1789) (after Thomas Gainsborough) by John Dean (London 1754 - c.1798). 1778. Robed gentleman. Full length standing, ermine-trimmed robes with 3 rows of tippets. Breeches, white hose, buckled shoes. Holds coronet in right hand, sword hanging on left side. Printed beneath the picture 'Gainsborough RA pinxit 1778', 'Dean sculpt'. Black frame, gilt slip, mounted and glazed.
Provenance
Part of the Courtauld-Thomson bequest of 1943, and transferred from Dorneywood via Queen Anne's Gate to Blickling Hall in 1989.
