Summary
Print, mezzotint. William Manning MP (1763-1835) (after James Lonsdale) by Charles Turner, RA (Woodstock 1773 - London 1857) Governor of the Bank of England. Proof copy. Seated gentleman holding a book in right hand, with a desk to his left. Dressed in dark velvet coat and trousers, lace jabot and waistcoat in white. White hose, buckled shoes. Posed in front of column with large building in distance. The following is printed beneath the picture. 'Engraved by C Turner', 'Painted by I Lonsdale', 'London; Pub'd September 18th 1813 for the proprietor by C Turner, Warren Street, Fitzroy Square'. Crest and arms in centre at bottom of picture. Black frame, gilt slip, mounted and glazed. One label on verso.
Provenance
Part of the Courtauld-Thomson bequest of 1943, and transferred from Dorneywood via Queen Anne's Gate to Blickling Hall in 1989.
