Summary
Biscuitware group. Derby, circa 1780. Group of 'Water', one of two from 'The Four Elements', unglazed soft-paste porcelain (biscuit), modelled by Nicolas-Joseph-Francois Gauron. A putto stands by a tree holding his catch with net and fishing pole, while a companion removes fish from a creel. Incised on base 'N 48'. Patch marks. William Duesbury, Derby c.1775. Gauron was trained at Tournai, Belgium, and this series is based on models he designed there in 1760.
