Summary
Bowl. Porcelain. Painted in famille rose enamels. Exterior decorated with a continuous scene from a Chinese drama or historical romance, such as 'Romance of the Western Chamber' depicting five women on horseback in a garden with trees, peonies and trellis, and three scholars holding fans in an open pavilion. Interior with a seated scholar enjoying a cup of wine. Floral border around inside rim. Qianlong period, China. c.1750.
Provenance
Part of the Lothian Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust by Philip, 11th Marquess of Lothian (1882-1940).
