Summary
Cover to large blue and white porcelain jar of baluster shape. With seated Buddhistic lion finial in biscuit ceramic. Painted in underglaze blue, lambequin panels reserved with flowers. Jingdeszhen, China. Kangxi period, circa 1700-1720.
Provenance
Listed in the 1794 auction catalogue of the London House in the Dining Room: '58. A Capital old blue and white jar and cover, near three feet high, with gilt lion top', not recorded sold. Part of the Lothian Collection. The hall and contents were bequeathed to the National Trust by Philip, 11th Marquess of Lothian (1882-1940).
