Summary

Oil painting on board, Discussion in a Barn-Tavern by Nicholas Condy (Torpoint 1793 - Plymouth 1857), circa 1830-40. A group of three men are around a table in the centre of a barn, with open rafters, one sits on the right with a newspaper on his lap whilst another stands, in a long apron, gesticulating with his finger at the palm of his other hand and another sits behing in a red woolly cap listening. In the background on the right, are another couple, one male and the other female, standing, beside a fireplace, behind whom a ladder leans against an upper level loft. A window on the right looks out to a blue sky, a vine is creeping in, and beside which hangs a birdcage. In the left foreground is an arrangement of plates and a basket, with fish, onions and carrots lying on the floor and a bench with a jar and a large cabbage and a pink cloth on a bench. In the background on the left, stuck to the wall is a picture of a building with a peacock feather pushed behind it. Alongside, further back stands a clock, cupboard and an area covered by a green cloth with stockings hanging over it.
