Summary
James I silver gilt steeple cup with panels of sea monsters and conventional floral decoration, the cover surmounted with a female figure on a steeple.Marked on the rim of the cup and on the cover with date letter R for 1614/15, lion passant for sterling standard, leopard’s head crowned for London and maker’s mark RN in a shaped shield, possibly for Robert Newton.
Provenance
Accepted by HM Government in lieu of inheritance tax and allocated to the National Trust for display at Antony, 1995.
