Summary
Tapestry, wool and silk, 7-8 warps per cm, Romulus and Remus before Numitor (fragmant) from a set of five of the Story of Rome, Jan van Rottom, Brussels, c. 1660-1670. The lower section of a much larger scene, a marble pavement with a shield and arms on the left and a man's legs on the right. On the lower galloon are the 'BB' mark of the city of Brussels and the signature 'IAN VAN ROTTOM'. This is the bottom of 'Romulus and Remus before Numitor' (no. 348294.2). (Helen Wyld, 2010)
