Full description
Miquelet gun, Turkey, late 17thcentury. Iron barrel formed in 2 stages, octagonal at the breech to round at the muzzle, each stage separated by decorative inlaid silver bandings. The breech formed with a raised collar with a peep-hole sight. The muzzle with fluted decoration, copper banding and raised fore-sight. Retained to the stock by 2 later brass barrel bands. Wooden ramrod with a brass tip. Barrel length: 114.3cm. Calibre 8mm. Wooden full stock, the butt of pentagonal form and decorated with engraved bone plaques in the form of flowers and scrolling foliage. Sliding patch-box cover to right side of the butt. Thick bone heel plate and bone trigger plate. Button form iron trigger. Miquelet flintlock of characteristic Turkish form with filed decoration to the bridle and edge of the mainspring. The cock with elongated jaws and capstan-type jaw screw. Retained to the stock by 2 side-nails. Overall length: 146.7cm
