Full description
Flintlock military Short Land Pattern musket, the lock dated 1738, English. Restocked, probably a Victorian copy. Round iron barrel, the breech with a turned moulding and stamped with a crowned GR and crossed sceptres (Kings proof marks) and engraved, ROYL. NB. DRAGS. Barrel tang also marked with crowned GR and crossed sceptres. Bayonet lug mounted at the muzzle. Retained to the stock by 3 barrel pins. Iron ramrod. Barrel length 105.4cm Calibre 20mm. Later walnut full stock with hand-rail form butt. Brass furniture comprising; butt-plate, escutcheon (engraved 1/66), trigger guard (the sling swivel missing) and 4 ramrod pipes. Flintlock, lockplate of distintive "banana-shaped" form, the plate surface of rounded section. The plate engraved with GR and Crown, and (under pan) stamped with a Broad Arrow; the tail of the plate engraved TOWER 1738. Retained to the stock by 2 side-nails. Overall length 147.3cm
