Full description
An unusual flintlock (miquelet) long-gun, Italian (?) late 17th century. Composed of 3 international elements, the stock Italian, the lock of Spanish form and the barrel a charectorictic 17th century Turkish form. Turkish iron barrel of exceptional length, formed in 2 stages, octagonal at the breech and then round to the muzzle which is of a distictive tulip-form. The breech formed with a raised collar with a peep-hole sight, the muzzle with a double blade brass fore-sight. The beech also with chiselled decoration and inset with a silver makers mark. Retained to the stock by 3 barrel pins. Wooden ramrod with brass tip. Barrel length 141.5cm. Calibre 20mm. Italian form walnut (?) full stock, with curved and facetted butt, the with fore-stock fluted carving. The pierced and engraved brass furniture comprises; butt collar, the end of the butt inset with a shield-like plaque, escutcheon, trigger plate, side-plate of dragon form, fore-end cap and 3 ramrod pipes. Crudely formed iron trigger guard (later ?). Flintlock (miquelet), of Spanish form with engraved plate. The frizzen with a serrated face and formed with a small projection at the outer top to facilitate opening. The cock with ring-style top jaw screw. Retained to the stock by 2 sidenails.
