Full description
Flintlock (miquelet) long-gun, Spanish (possibly Ripoll?) late 17th century, with a Turkish barrel. Large round Damascus twist Turkish iron barrel, the muzzle slightly flared. Inlaid with silver bands at the breech and muzzle. The beech inset with a brass makers mark bordered with silver and also a silver disc. The front sight missing, the breech formed with a raised collar with peep-hole sight. Retained to the stock by 3 barrel pins. The wooden ramrod with a brass tip. Barrel length 109.5cm. Calibre 20mm. Club shaped walnut full stock, the right and left side of the butt, also the fore-stock overlaid with pierced and shaped decorative brass panels engraved with serpents, monsters and foliage. Brass furniture, engraved in a similar fashion to the butt panels, comprising; buttplate with a long decorative tang engraved with a shield-like design, a shaped and pierced escutcheon, a pierced trigger plate, a pierced side-plate, a fore-end cap and 3 ramrod pipes of facetted form (the rear pipe missing). Ribbon-like iron trigger guard. Miquelet lock (flintlock), of Spanish patilla-type, the lockplate engraved. Frizzen with serrated face. The top jaw screw with a large ring-shaped head. Retained to the stock by 2 sidenails. Overall length: 146cm
