Summary
One of two dessert spoons, sterling silver, by Jonathan Hayne, London, 1835/6. The spoons are of the fiddle pattern and are engraved on the front of their terminals with the crests of Walker (greyhound) and Ferrers (unicorn).
Provenance
Thomas Ferrers-Walker (d. 1970); Thomas Weaving Ferrers-Walker (1925-2006); acquired by HM Government in 1980 and transferred to The National Trust.
Marks and inscriptions
Underside of terminal: Hallmarks: king's head [William IV]; date letter 'u' for 1835/6; leopard's head for London; lion passant for sterling standard; maker's mark 'IH' italics in a square punch for Jonathan Hayne (Arthur Grimwade, London Goldsmiths 1697-1837, London 1990, no. 1408).
