Summary
Ceramic, Staffordshire, General William Booth (1829-1912), Staffordshire Pottery. Staffordshire bust figure of General Booth. Head and shoulders (no pedestal), in Salvation Army hat and uniform, THE SALVATION ARMY on his hat-band, a crowned device, inscribed - BLOOD AND FIRE, on his jersey, and crowned devices, inscribed - S, on his coat- collar and shoulder straps, all in gold, Probably hand-painted. A cast figure.
Provenance
part of collection built up by Thomas Balston (d.1967). He wrote about the collection in Staffordshire Portrait Figures of the Victorian Age, 1958.
