Summary
Ceramic, Staffordshire, William Shakespeare (1564-1616), Staffordshire Pottery. Full-length Staffordshire figure of William Shakespeare, standing, bare-headed, in cloak, doublet, breeches and stockings. Right elbow on three books lying on a pedestal, a paper hangs from its top, right hand almost touching right cheek, left hand empty and resting on the pedestal. Standing under an arch with a pointed canopy.
Provenance
part of collection built up by Thomas Balston (d.1967). He wrote about the collection in Staffordshire Portrait Figures of the Victorian Age, 1958.
