Summary
Ceramic, Staffordshire, William Shakespeare (1564-1616), Staffordshire Pottery. Full-length Staffordshire figure of William Shakespeare, standing, bare-headed, in cloak, doublet, breeches, and stockings. Right elbow on two books lying on a pedestal decorated with two heads, left hand holds a rolled paper, right hand points at the paper, but does not touch it; right leg crossed over the left at the knee.
Provenance
part of collection built up by Thomas Balston (d.1967). He wrote about the collection in Staffordshire Portrait Figures of the Victorian Age, 1958.
