Ceramic, Staffordshire, William Shakespeare (1564-1616), Staffordshire Pottery. Full-length Staffordshire figure of William Shakespeare, sitting, bare-headed, in doublet, breeches, and stockings. Left hand holds an open book in his lap, right hand holds a pen above it. A large jar standing to his left; left foot on a closed book.

part of collection built up by Thomas Balston (d.1967). He wrote about the collection in Staffordshire Portrait Figures of the Victorian Age, 1958.
