Summary
Ceramic, Staffordshire, George Gordon Noel Byron, 6th Baron Byron of Rochdale (1788-1824) and the Maid of Athens, Staffordshire Pottery. Full-length Staffordshire figures of Lord Byron, sitting, bare-headed, in open-necked shirt, jacket, breeches and knee-boots, his left arm around the Maid of Athens shoulders. She sits in a cap and long dress. Her head resting on her left hand.
Provenance
part of collection built up by Thomas Balston (d.1967). He wrote about the collection in Staffordshire Portrait Figures of the Victorian Age, 1958.
