Summary
Ceramic, Staffordshire, Theobald Wolfe Tone (1763-1798), Staffordshire Pottery. Full-length Staffordshire figure of Theobald Wolfe Tone, standing, bare-headed, in military jacket, breeches and stockings. Left hands hold two flags across his chest. To his right a pedestal inscribed - 'Who fears to speak of '89 / 1789 1889'.
Provenance
part of collection built up by Thomas Balston (d.1967). He wrote about the collection in Staffordshire Portrait Figures of the Victorian Age, 1958.
