Full-length Staffordshire figure of The Reverend Christmas Evans, standing, bare-headed, in swallow-tailed coat, breeches, and stockings. His right eye is closed. Christmas Evans (1766-1838), Welsh Baptist. Injured right eye in a religious brawl in 1788.
Provenance
part of collection built up by Thomas Balston (d.1967). He wrote about the collection in Staffordshire Portrait Figures of the Victorian Age, 1958.
