Summary
Ceramic, Staffordshire, The Reverend Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892), Staffordshire Pottery. Full-length Staffordshire figure of the Rev. Charles Haddon Spurgeon, standing in a pulpit, bare-headed. Baptist preacher, came to London in 1854 aged 20. Became so famous that the Metropolitan Tabernacle with 6000 seats was built for him 7yrs later. Preached there till his death.
Provenance
part of collection built up by Thomas Balston (d.1967). He wrote about the collection in Staffordshire Portrait Figures of the Victorian Age, 1958.
