Summary

Ceramic, Staffordshire, The Reverend Edward Meyrick Goulburn (1818-1897) Dean of Norwic, Staffordshire Pottery. Full-length Staffordshire figure of the Reverend Edward Meyrick Goulburn, D.D. standing, bare-headed, in a pulpit. In choker, low-cut waistcoat and jacket. If, as seems probable, this figure 'Coulburn' really represents Dr.Goulburn, is the only known portrait of a cleric of the C of E.

Provenance

part of collection built up by Thomas Balston (d.1967). He wrote about the collection in Staffordshire Portrait Figures of the Victorian Age, 1958.
