Summary
Ceramic, Staffordshire, Charles Stewart Parnell, MP (1846-1891), Staffordshire Pottery. Full-length Staffordshire figure of Charles Stewart Parnell, standing bare-headed, in Greek dress with bare arms and legs. A heavy club in his left hand; his right holding up a flag with Union Jack and Irish Harp embossed on it. (1846-81) Leader of Irish Parliamentary Party from 1874-90. In 1886 converted Gladstone to Home Rule.
Provenance
part of collection built up by Thomas Balston (d.1967). He wrote about the collection in Staffordshire Portrait Figures of the Victorian Age, 1958.
