Summary
Ceramic, Staffordshire, Sir Robert Peel, 2nd Bt MP (1788-1850), Staffordshire Pottery. Full-length Staffordshire figure of Sir Robert Peel, standing, bare-headed in frock-coat, closely buttoned up to the neck. Left hand holds speech against the skirt of his coat; right hand hangs down empty. Prime Minister 1834-5 and 1841-6. In 1864 repealed the Corn Laws.
Provenance
part of collection built up by Thomas Balston (d.1967). He wrote about the collection in Staffordshire Portrait Figures of the Victorian Age, 1958.
