Summary
Ceramic, Staffordshire, Sir Robert Peel, 2nd Bt MP (1788-1850), Staffordshire Pottery. Staffordshire full-length figure, Sir Robert Peel, standing, bare-headed. Left-hand on hip, right on top of a pedestal with a scroll inscribed in gilt script 'Repeal of the Corn Law'. Prime Minister 1834-5 and 1841-6. In 1864 repealed the Corn Laws.
Provenance
part of collection built up by Thomas Balston (d.1967). He wrote about the collection in Staffordshire Portrait Figures of the Victorian Age, 1958.
