Summary
8 day walnut longcase clock by Thomas Tompion, c.1680. Walnut veneered on oak carcass. Flat top, rising hood with barley twist columns and glazed sides. Convex moulding to trunk and trunk door. Ebonised bun feet to plinth. 8 day longcase clock in walnut case by Thomas Tompion c1680. 2 train 5 pillar movement with anchor escapement and outside countwheel striking striking. Bolt and shutter maintaining power and latched plates. 10 inch square dial with winged cherub spandrels, silvered chapter ring and seconds dial above centre. Square calendar aperture above 6 in matted dial centre. Pierced steel hands Walnut veneered case on oak carcase. Flat top rising hood with barley twist columns and glazed sides. The 3rd, escape and warning wheels are later replacements as probably are the shutters and bun feet. Note: Thomas Tompion was one of England’s greatest late 17th and early 18th century clockmakers.
