123 leaves; 29 cm. Inserted before leaf 33: 14 x 10 cm piece of paper, handwritten in black ink on one side, unsigned and undated, but contemporary with manuscript. Provenance: Typescript declaration adhered to front pastedown, signed 'R. W. Ketton-Cremer' [Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer, 1906-1969], and detailing how the volume was given to him by the Marquess and Marchioness of Cholmondeley at Houghton Hall. Inserted before leaf 15: 26 x 20 cm notepaper with heading of R. W. Ketton-Cremer [Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer, 1906-1969], Felbrigg Hall, containing a transcription by R. W. Ketton-Cremer of a Sept. 27 1629 entry in the manuscript, handwritten in black ink with corrections in blue ink; also 18 x 14 cm lined paper containing a transcription by R. W. Ketton-Cremer of a March 4. 1631 entry in the manuscript, handwritten in black ink with an excision in blue ink. Inserted before leaf 92: 17 x 13 cm pale blue letter with heading of Houghton Hall and dated Oct. 5th 1968, addressed to Wyndham [Robert Wyndham Ketton-Cremer, 1906-1969] from Sybil [Sybil Cholmondeley, Marchioness of Cholmondeley, 1894–1989] thanking him for his letter on the death of her husband 'Rock' [George Cholmondeley, 5th Marquess of Cholmondeley, Earl of Rocksavage, 1883-1968]. Binding: early seventeenth-century limp vellum binding (gouged on lower boards), with holes occupied by remnants of leather ties, cord-sewn onto textblock, handwritten ink inscription and date on upper boards, red edges. Tied and cased.
