Inserted between back flyleaf and pastedown, 18cm piece of paper, folded, with handwritten list of British owls in black ink on one side, 'List of owls. H. E. S. Upcher' on reverse. Provenance: in pencil on front flyleaf recto, inscription: 'Upcher'. Binding: publisher's red cloth over boards, black gilt fillets to form a border, gilt egg and nest decoration in centre on upper boards. Black and gilt decoration on spine.

Acquired by the National Trust in 1986 with the aid of bequests from E.L. Elliot, H. Ridler, D.E. Swiffen and Alice M. Weeks, grant-aid from the National Heritage Memorial Fund, the Countryside Commission and funds raised by the East Anglian Coast & Countryside Appeal, and an endowment from Mildred Cordeaux, a cousin of Thomas Upcher.
